The Skilled Nursing Facility is what most people think of when they hear the term Nursing Home. However, nursing home is an outdated term that does not represent the services provided in today's highly professional skilled nursing and rehabilitation facilities. The negative connotations associate with these facilities are unwarranted and create unnecessary guilt and and anxiety for patients and family members. Because of the advances in medicine most facilities focus on Short Term Rehab with the goal of the patient returning home. With strict state regulations and accreditation procedures today's skilled nursing facilities no longer resemble those of the past. Because of this shift most patients find the experience to be positive. Under most circumstances Medicare and or Medicaid will pay for this level of care.
