The Forum at Brookside Retirement Community has an excellent and long-standing reputation in the Louisville community and senior living business. That reputation is credited to former Executive Director, Bill Hulsey, who was with The Forum for 31 years. Bill retired this past fall and as I step into this position and try to fill those big shoes, I know the systems, customs, and standards he put in place are a solid foundation for our continued success.
One of the key differences you will find with us is the longevity of our dedicated staff. In this day and age, I am proud to say that many of our team members have been with us for over ten years, and some over twenty! That means so much to our residents who look forward to a familiar face every day. We boast about our low staff turnover rates, which in the senior living industry is rare. We also boast about our 2019 Deficiency Free Federal annual inspection. Less than three percent of senior living facilities nationwide receive a deficiency free survey.
I am so proud of our staff for these accomplishments!
This month marks the 30th year of my tenure with The Forum at Brookside. I started as a college student working in the kitchen as a dietary aide. I held positions in Medical Records, Recreation, Health Care management, Admissions, and most recently the Administrator for our Skilled Nursing and Personal Care Facilities. And now my dream job ... the Executive Director of the nicest, most hospitable retirement community in Louisville. I truly love this community!
The Forum at Brookside is a Certified Continuing Care Retirement Community, featuring a beautiful, 40-acre campus near Middletown. Opened in 1984, with additions in 1994 and 1996, the present campus features 108 one & two-bedroom villa homes, 132 studio, one, and two-bedroom apartments, a 60 bed skilled Health Center, and 24 Personal Care apartments.
The Forum at Brookside is affiliated with Five Star Senior Living, Inc., one of the industry’s largest organizations, serving seniors in over two hundred locations, with over 20,000 residents and 25,000 employees.
Five Star Senior Living communities distinguish themselves through three key areas: Health & Wellness, Warmth & Hospitality, and Dining & Nutrition. Our commitment to these “pillars” represents our promise that your senior years at The Forum at Brookside will be engaging, fulfilling, and comfortable.
Our Lifestyle360 Program is a life enriching approach to active community living. The wellness program focuses on enhancing residents’ lives using five dimensions of wellness. Each aspect of the program is research-based and has been shown to have physical, mental, and/or spiritual benefits which, in concert, improve overall wellness and feelings of well-being.
Your dining experience at The Forum is second to none! We provide an exceptional dining experience that gives our residents options – from decadent comfort food to healthy choices; we can accommodate even the pickiest of eaters. We offer gourmet dining and a casual fare for lunch. Residents can enjoy a meal in the dining room, or opt for lighter fare at a bistro, as well as coffee and a pastry. Our theme nights are extraordinary with delicious menus from Spain, France and Italy…And please dress for the theme!
One of my core principles for our staff is that we build relationships. Good relationships with our residents, families, staff, and vendors. I always use Former Director Bill Hulsey’s hiring philosophy of “hearts over heads” when interviewing potential staff because it goes hand in hand with building relationships. It makes me know that we are doing the right thing when I hear our residents refer to their friends and staff members as “My Forum Family”. Come join us to be part of our Family!
Sara Shaw
Executive Director,
The Forum at Brookside
